The project was implemented in Rural Maharashtra. The training center of Watershed Organization Trust located at Darewadi, is now powered by a 5 KW Solar-Wind-Mains Tripple Hybrid system, extendable upto 7.5 KW. The state of the art system comprises of 23 solar panels of 220 WP each, 2 micro wind turbines of 300 Watts each and has a 7.5 KW invertor. 10 Industrial tubular batteries (200Ah/12 volt) are installed which provide for 2 days of autonomy. The center's indoor and outdoor lighting has been replaced by LEDs which has reduced the lighting load by 90%. The center now boasts of running on Alternate Energy system for nearly 70% of the time during a year. A Solar Parabolic Cooker is also installed at the kitchen which can cook food for 40 adults under clear sunshine. This is resulting into significant energy and emission reductions. The center has nearly 300 visitors every year from around the World for training and other capacity building activities. The training center is spread across an area of 3 acres.
Watershed Organization Trust was the sole implementing NGO for this project.
DATAGUARD TM were the technical partners providing the hardware and technical support.
The project was funded by Evangelischer Entwicklungsdienst - EED, Germany.
Implementation of 5 KW Solar Wind Mains Hybrid System providing electricity to WOTR's training center at Darewadi, Sangamner. Nearly 60% reduction in total electrical load of the center through use of LED lighting.
Total Project Cost : INR 18,00,000
Energy efficiency is an integral part of Alternate Energy. Without efficiency gains the impact of Alternate Energy will not be lower due to higher costs involved in setting up high power solar or wind inftrastructure. Thus, energy efficiency is a precursor for success of Alternate Energy.
